About the Project

What is Mindreader AI?

themindreader.ai is an AI-powered platform designed to help salespeople and client-facing professionals improve their communication performance and close deals more effectively. Using personality signals decoded from text and images, it generates behavioural insights about prospects.

Despite a compelling underlying technology, the platform suffered from critically low user retention and adoption — largely due to UX and communication failures that caused users to dismiss it as "just another AI gimmick."

Business Problem

Mindreader AI was experiencing low user retention and adoption due to poor communication of its core value proposition. Usability issues — unclear CTAs, poor navigation, and a confusing analysis journey — led users to view the platform as "another AI mechanism for playing games" rather than a serious sales tool.

Phase 01 — Discovery

Understanding the Business & Its Users

We began by running a full discovery sprint — combining expert heuristics with real user interviews to surface the root causes of disengagement.

👁

Learnability & Clarity

Unclear purpose and benefits made Mindreader look like a horoscope app, preventing serious professional adoption.

Efficiency

Complex, technical analysis with unclear text/image upload instructions made the app inefficient for new users.

📊

Satisfaction

Unclear results overview, confusing charts, and a lack of next-step guidance left users frustrated and disengaged.

🔗

Memorability

Missing links, confusing CTAs, and repetitive menus created inconsistent navigation that slowed every task.

🤝

Trust

User skepticism about AI predictions — combined with zero education on how the model worked — eroded trust and caused abandonment.

Core User Problem

Sales professionals struggled to perceive Mindreader AI as a credible and valuable tool. Unclear messaging, confusing terminology, a complex analysis process, and an unconvincing results presentation led them to view it as a generic or "horoscope-like" application — eroding trust and killing engagement.

Phase 02 — Define

Collecting Insights & Defining the User

User interviews and persona development revealed a consistent set of unmet expectations. Every user wanted the same thing: simplicity, clarity, and professional credibility.

User Voice — What They Said

"I need to know what this tool really does."

"I want a quick, easy way to analyze clients."

"Give me actionable insights for better sales talks."

"I must trust the AI's predictions."

"Show me this is a serious professional tool."

"Just make the analysis three simple steps."

"Tell me exactly how to upload text or images."

"Make the results clear and useful."

"Please guide me when I first use it."

"The roleplay bot needs professional starting lines."

"Make your pricing clear and easy to understand."

Primary Persona

The Sales Professional

  • ■ Needs quick, actionable client insights
  • ■ Values credible, data-backed tools
  • ■ Loses patience with complexity
  • ■ Distrusts unexplained AI claims
  • ■ Prioritises closing deals over learning new UIs

Key Outcome They Want

"Client analysis that is fast, trustworthy, and gives me a clear action to take next."

Phase 03 — Design

Designing the Solutions

Four interconnected design streams addressed trust, usability, visual credibility, and developer alignment.

01

Trust-First Sign-Up Flow

Redesigned the sign-up gate to appear before any client analysis. Users build trust in Mindreader's data protection before they invest effort in uploads — dramatically improving conversion from visitor to active user.

02

Unified Dashboard & Flexible Analysis

The new dashboard acts as a unified home for all users — new or returning. The revamped analysis flow supports multiple input methods: uploading text or images, taking a quiz, or sending a quiz directly to the client.

03

Visual Design System & UI Library

Built a complete design system and component library aligned with professional SaaS standards — replacing visual inconsistencies that contributed to the "horoscope" perception with credible, clean UI patterns.

04

Design-to-Dev Handoff (Design at a Glance)

"Design at a Glance" posts were circulated to the development team for each component — detailing header types, dos and don'ts, and usage guidelines to ensure implementation fidelity across the product.

Phase 04 — Visual Design

A Design System Built for Credibility

The visual redesign went beyond aesthetics. Every component was engineered to communicate professionalism and reinforce trust — replacing the informal, ambiguous UI elements that previously undermined adoption.

A complete UI Library was assembled, covering typography, colour, buttons, forms, cards, charts, and data visualisations — ensuring every screen communicates the same level of product maturity.

Phase 05 — Deliver

Design at a Glance — Dev Handoff

The delivery phase introduced a "Design at a Glance" format — structured handoff posts circulated from the design team to development for each component.

Each post detailed the distinct variants, usage guidelines, and dos/don'ts for that component, ensuring implementation fidelity and closing the loop between design intent and coded reality.

Example: Header Types

Four distinct header types were defined with specific usage guidelines, edge case handling, and visual specifications — preventing ad-hoc implementation decisions at build time.

Phase 06 — User Testing

Validation with Real Users

Usability testing was conducted with sales professionals on the redesigned prototype. Testing focused on the three highest-risk journeys: onboarding, client analysis, and results comprehension.

Sign-up flow completed without prompts

Client analysis initiated using all 3 input methods

Results understood and next steps identified

Navigation consistency rated "professional" by all testers

Trust perception significantly improved over baseline

Outcome

From Horoscope to High-Performance Sales Tool

The Mindreader AI redesign transformed how users perceive and interact with the platform. By addressing every layer of the experience — from first impression to post-analysis next steps — the product now communicates the credibility its underlying AI always deserved.
