FocusApp: 100K Downloads in 60 Days
FocusApp's founder had a proven concept and a small but passionate user base. They needed a production-grade mobile app that would hold up to scale — and a launch strategy that would generate momentum. We delivered both.
The Challenge
What we were up against
Cross-Platform Quality
The client needed both iOS and Android — with no compromise on native feel. Previous cross-platform attempts had produced an app that felt like a website in a wrapper. That wasn't acceptable.
Performance Under Load
Focus and productivity apps are used during work sessions — often with the screen on continuously. Memory efficiency and battery impact were critical constraints from the first architecture decision.
Engagement Architecture
Productivity apps have notoriously poor retention. Building the notification and habit formation features required understanding behavioural psychology, not just engineering.
The Solution
What we built
React Native with Native Bridging
We chose React Native for cross-platform economics, but invested in native bridges for the performance-critical features — background timers, audio engine, and haptic feedback. The result was indistinguishable from a native app.
Offline-First Architecture
The entire app works without an internet connection. Session data is stored locally and synced in the background. Users in poor connectivity environments — where focus tools are most needed — had a seamless experience.
Behaviour-Driven Engagement System
We built a smart notification engine that adapts to individual usage patterns — nudging at the right moment, not on a fixed schedule. Combined with streak mechanics and milestone celebrations, Day-7 retention was 68% at launch.
